Just came back from a 'ceramah' titled 'Hidup Indah Bersama Islam', delivered by a well-known Ustaz, Zahzan Mohamed. Well I don't know him exactly, but friends who know him had been telling a lot. Ustaz Zahzan delivered a superb explanation on how Islam is 'syumul' and how we Muslims could play our part, but he emphasized the necessity to first understand Allah by understanding the concept of Tauhid. Even though there might be many differing methodologies of understanding Tauhid, he believed any method is applicable for as long it brings us closer to Allah S.W.T. His 2 hour lectures was not bored as he managed to crack some jokes in between and most importantly he had filled his talk with plenty of stories from the past that are very important to learn from. This prominent figure did emphasize the importance of knowledge and to cultivate a strong reading culture as what he had experienced when he was in Germany. Germany has a population of 80 million and 90% of its population reads a lot.
